Usually its the environment first, unfortunately we are not the only ones whom like lavish gardens, rock walls and pool areas but these things set the atmosphere for attracting snakes, but keeping in mind the suggestions on keeping snakes away from you're home means you can live together with snakes but not in your home.

How can i keep snakes from coming on to my property and out of my home?

Dont leave animal food and water next to your door at night, this attracts rats and the scent will attract snakes into your living space
Installing fly screens and under door sleaves to prevent snakes entering your home on hot days.
Installing finch mesh around your fence line or pool witch can be purchased at any hardware store. 12mm
Keeping stock feeds in large containers so rats can not access the feeds.
Do not use stand alone compost bins, these become breeding grounds for rats and mice and again will attract snakes.
Being aware is probably the most important of all and educate yourself, know on hot days that you may see a snake, also educate your children on what to do if they are confronted by a snake , ill cover that in these questions.
You can keep water in containers away from your house on hot days, they wont come looking for water.
And keeping garden taps from dripping or leaking so not attracting snakes on hot days.
By keeping lawns mowed and hard rubbish away from the house or shed.
do not use rodent baits, they play havoc with the eco system, the baits kill the owls , snakes and the night Jars that eat the baited rats and the only thing left are rats because they are a populist species, (more of them)

Are snake catchers free?

No, Like any contractor, snake catchers will charge a call out fee to cover expenses and time looking for the snake and extra when the snake is caught,

Where do you relocate snakes to?

Depending on the situation, location and snake, snakes are generally relocated back into the nearest, safest place for the snake to survive but far enough so they wont return or put itself in another situation., venomous snakes are relocated away from peoples homes and properties. Snakes can also be relocated back on the owners property at the owners request.

What do i do if I'm confronted by a snake?

Stop, take a deep breath and dont panic, snakes dont want to know you as much as you them, if you feel like you can't back away the best strategy is not to move at all, the most common encounter in the Northern rivers is with Eastern brown snakes and if they feel threatened, will react to your movement. If you don't move, they won't react, Just by stopping and not moving, the snake will realize you're not a threat and slowly move on,

Do snake deterrents work?

No they don't, electronic devices are all a scam and only give a false sense of security. Snakes can feel small vibrations through their tongue and Jacob's organ but only about a 3 meter diameter.
Things like peppermint oil are rodent deterrents keeping rats and mice away but are not a real alternative for reptiles.

Can I Identify a snake by its colors?

Not generally no, Snakes like large pythons are obvious to some but because snakes come in many different colors it's hard for the inexperienced person to be sure, Eastern brown snakes come in several colors and striped patters when they hatch and 50% will keep those juvenal colors into maturity. But only an experienced person can identify a snake at a glance so if you're unsure, give us a call, do not attempt to move the snake yourself. And don't rely on positively identifying a snake on the internet because of the vernation of colors and markings is endless.
Any ID of a snake from the Internet must be an Approved Ider (AppID#) whom is certified for that, not random members of the public for safety reasons.
